Officers from the Rivers State Police command have arrested Chijioke Ihunwo, the state Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), and other members for staging a peaceful protest against the plot to remove Siminalayi Fubara from office.
Ihunwo and about 40 other youths, were arrested during a peaceful protest at the Government House Port Harcourt, to stop Fubara’s removal.
Some of the protesters were able to escape the arrest, while about three of them were injured during the incident.
Chief Protocol Officer NYCN in the state, Ikechukwu Wordu, in a message to newsmen has appealed to Nigerians to condemn the arrest of Ihunwo
He said: “Right away we are in Old GRA Police Station. We are calling on civil society organizations, we are calling on the inspector general of police.
“We are calling on President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to come to the aid of Rivers State youths, the intimidation is too much from Nigeria Police. ”
The Rivers State Police Command has yet to issue a statement on the incident.
